Brunei Darussalam 27th National Day: Brunei awareness in Hull

23rd February 2011

While national day celebrations were happening back in Brunei Darussalam, the BruHullians did their own celebration in the form of a Brunei Awareness booth. Set up at the Derwent Cafe in Hull University Business School, the booth was filled with information about Brunei, its culture and its populace as well as showing off some of the interesting sights of Brunei while also providing some samples of Brunei's local foodstuff.

Besides information, there was also videos playing that show the sights of Brunei such as Kampong Ayer and the Istana.

Attracting people into the booth, the BruHullians flocked all over to host the curious bypassers, some telling them about Brunei - taking their curiosity in while letting them know about the wonders of Brunei, telling them that what we do on that day, we did it because it is our national day. What better day for Brunei Awareness right?

Plenty came to look at the booth, and plenty were asked to locate Brunei on the map. While very few understandably could not pin point where Brunei is, many were able to answer the quizzes given out.

Of course all the info about Brunei itself wouldn't suffice. A table with a variety of Bruneian food was also there to pull people in, and what a success that was! The food itself was mostly cleared out by the end of the day, with the cucur udang (prawn fritters) being the most popular and were the first to leave an empty platter.

Overall the day was a hit, with everyone who volunteered giving it their all to make sure everyone who was interested stays interested in gaining knowledge about Brunei and to ensure the success of the awareness booth.

With the day ending with smiles, we thank everyone who volunteered and attended the event.

Happy National Day Brunei!
