Khatam Al-Quran in Hull

On the 12th of March 2011, Bruneian students in Hull gathered for Khatam Al-Quran, an event where 33 BruHullians participated and with guests of honour Cikgu Abdullah bin Haji Ahad, the director of studies of BSU (Brunei Students Unit) accompanied by officers from BSU and Brunei High Commissioner, Ustaz Haji Sammali bin Haji Adam, AL-Aseer Hj Md Yussof and Haji Roslan Bin Haji Yahya, coming from London to attend to the event.

The event was held at the University of Hull's Student Union building inside meeting room 1.

The event began with everyone already in place, waiting for the arrival of the guests from London. With the arrival of the guests and with the cue given by the MC in the form of an introductory welcome speech, the participants finally marched into position to begin the event, with the reading of the Al-Fatihah, lead by our religious officer, marking the beginning of the actual event.

The event itself went by fairly well, even with the odd few hiccups here and there from nerves, with the guys giving it their all and the girls also doing their part well.

After the reading of the Doa Khatam Al-Quran, we began the Dzikir, all while each of us went forward to the guests of honour to receive our certificates.

After everyone has received their certificates, the event itself entered its closing stages. Following the end of the event, we all attended a Fiqh talk by Ustaz Haji Sammali.

The Fiqh talk was very insightful, reminding us of many things important as well as clarifying on subjects such as the attending of Friday prayers, the prerequisites for Qasar and Jama' prayers, etc.

Ustaz Sammali himself was a very charismatic speaker, giving out the Fiqh talk while also making sure that the lecture itself was not very formal by slipping in jokes and anecdotes for the audiences' amusement.

The Fiqh talk itself was done in the same meeting room, and it also signified the end of the whole event.

Many of the BruHullians worked their hardest in ensuring the success of the event, with many assigned to help with the preparation of the Bunga Telur, the food and drinks, etc.

Thank you everyone, the preparation and practice needed for the event was all thanks to your collective efforts!
