One day a friendly match in BruLeeds.

19th February it was, the day we had our friendly match with BruLeeds. Windy it was in the morning, something of a Hull specialty it would seem.

Couple of week before that, the ladies got their umbrellas on before it would start to rain – they came prepared for the netball match. The boys went ahead of their game as it is our routine to play football every weekend, or soccer if you may. Oh the dreadful shouting of Abang Joe to get into positions, but I digress.

I’ve always been fascinated in long hour journeys, but it turns out the train ride took us about an hour from Hull to Leeds which we took time for a nap. Upon arrival, we took the FREE bus ride and walked in the melted snow pass Charco’s on our way to Hakim’s house – BruLeeds student. I can’t imagine how great Hull would be if we had these FREE bus rides. Note to self: keep digression to a minimum.

Hakim was kind enough to pour us a glass of tea each, letting us play Fifa ’11 at the comfort of their warm living room. Qawi, who often visit Hull went in and served biscuits. You’ll be surprised that Brunei students studying in the UK are good cooks! To back up my point, we had Mee Hoon with sausages for breakfastIt’s really rare for me to have a spoon full of this meal in UK, loved it.

Remember the feeling when you had your first snow experience? Snowball fights, snowman?

Unfortunately, our initial football plan had to be cancelled due to snow. Yes, it was snowing in Leeds. I didn’t take any pictures of the snow though, you could picture in your minds snow melting and our shoes getting soaked, anyways moving on.

The netball game was not affected though, until Hisham (at least what I think) made the call to use an hour of the netball slot. I believe the initial plan was football to start at 9am and end before netball match starts.

All-in-all, the game went well for us, great fun! Although we lost by one nil to BruLeeds, 5 – 4 I believe or 6 – 5. I can’t quite remember which player on both teams scored during the match. The ladies didn’t keep track of the scores, teams were a mixture of BruHull and BruLeeds students. It is a friendly match after all.

The boys learnt a new word during the trip, “Party”, pronounced “Pa’ie”.

Google definition: A party is agathering of people who have been invited by a host for the purposes of socializing, conversation, and recreation. I‘m sure you know the meaning of the word pretty well. Who knows, “Water” could be next in our words-to-add list, pronounce it however you like but I beg to differ (“Wa’aa”).

It is our tradition within the BruHull community to eat before we head back to our warm cozy homes in Hull. Most of us went to eat at a Zara’s an Indian delicacy, where the others went traditional (Charco’s), which is much reliable and expected. No harm in whatever decision you choose to eat.

Once again our President, Hisham Sabtu, set me on a task to write about our adventures out of Hull and
there you go, although, I would like to point out that BruHull appeared on Brunei Times! Congratulations BruHull. Once again, Happy 27th National Day Brunei.
